The firstborn daughter of the royal house of Drachium, Agnes was born into a world of great expectations. The crown princess of Wedon, all eyes in the kingdom were on her from a young age : whether waiting to see what she would achieve or desperately wishing for her failure.Raised with everything she could ever have needed, the only thing the girl truly longed for was sincere companionship, something she could never find in the other nobles or those employed to look after her.Where she could find it, however, was in the people she met when she would slip free from the castle and explore her kingdom, those folks who didn't realize who exactly she was.As the years went on, Agnes grew away from being the prim and perfect princess and began to make an image for herself : seeking to learn magic and become stronger, spending time alongside her father’s knights in order to learn to protect and defend herself.By the time of the Dragon Campaign, the princess was known to be a powerful sorceress, who went to the war in her father’s place. Returning home following Sektor’s defeat, Agnes quickly settles back into her role as her father’s right hand… although she still makes more than enough time for her own unique breed of chaos and fun.

Born into the enterprising Blight family, Amity had high expectations placed on her from the moment she was born. Always pushed to be the brightest, the fastest, the best of the best.The one solace she had as a girl was her friend Willow Park : unlike Amity, her friend had very few expectations placed on her, loving parents who encouraged her through successes and failures. Willow was a late blooming witch, whose powers did not manifest until long after the other girls their age.Seeing the girl as a stain on their daughter's pristine reputation, Amity was told in no uncertain terms to break off her friendship with Willow ─ or they would be forced to take extreme measures, even going as far as to threaten to have her blacklisted from Hexside.Bending to her parental pressures, Amity broke off her one honest friendship, replacing it with the shallow, vapid friends her parents had handpicked for her.Over time, the once sweet girl grew to more closely resemble these friends : her attitude worsening, and gaining her a reputation around school as something of a mean girl.All of it was little more than a self-defence mechanism. Beneath all of it, she was still that little girl who liked her weird fantasy novels and dreamed of becoming a great witch.It was the arrival of a human in the Boiling Isles that set Amity on a new path : the human girl Luz was annoying, and endearing, and a huge pain, and kind. Over time, her walls broke down, and she dared to let someone new in. Luz set Amity on a new path... One that more closely resembled the kind of person she truly wanted to be.

Little is known of Ashiok's origins, and truthfully, they seem to prefer it that way. Certainly, rumors circle from time to time of the Nightmare Planeswalker, whispers offering that perhaps at one time they had been human. If that were true, then that time has long since passed : whatever they are now, they certainly seem to be something far removed from whatever they were.At some point in their history, the Nightmare Weaver was pulled to the plane of Theros, drawn by the strong powers of belief and devotion that were at the heart of all the mortals living within. In Theros, should a thing be believed and dreamed in enough, it would eventually become true. Unlike the gods, however, who sought belief in order to remain strong, Ashiok longer to uncover the darker side of that belief.During their time in Theros, Ashiok struck a bargain with Phenax, the god of lies and deceit, and soon after sought to incite a war between the polis of Iretis and the leonin. Posing as an adviser to the King of Iretis, Ashiok sent a nightmarish abomination to kill off individuals from both sides of a peace meeting. This resulted in the conflict continuing, each accusing the other of betrayal. The ensuing war and annihilation allowed for Phenax's plan to be carried out : creating another necropolis for the Returned. In return, Ashiok asked to be made invisible to the gods, allowing them to continue their work in creating beautiful art.Testing this new boon granted to them, Ashiok conducted an experiment : using their powers to upset the dreams of the citizens of Theros, which created disturbing thoughts among them, creating in turn Cacophony – the newborn God of Cities. This new god was quickly slain by Ephara, but she was unable to locate who had created such a being.Contented with this success, Ashiok continued their work in Theros, their influence growing over time. Theros soon became a land plagued by their nightmares, their will weakening and magic wielders losing memory of what had happened while they slumbered, only knowing that mayhem had been left in their wake. Soon, these magic users were cast from their homes, and all the while, Ashiok continued gathering power for their grandest spell.Their intention was to cast a spell over all of Theros that would send the world into a never ending sleep, so that they could harvest the nightmares from them forever. Had it not been for the intervention of the Planeswalker Dack Fayden, they may have succeeded...Their 'defeat' at the hands of Dack did not serve to stop Ashiok's influence in Theros, however. Even the Underworld was not free from their reach, and soon enough, they found the fallen planeswalker Elspeth Tirel, who proved to be a source of great inspiration. Her traumatic past and twisted memories were just too perfect to ignore, and a great many hours were spent toying with her nightmares until they were sharpened into a fine weapon – the Shadowspear.Ashiok may have toyed with Elspeth eternally, had they not pulled a unique vision from her mind. Learning of the Phyrexians, a twisted race melded of metal and organic matter, they were newly intrigued by these people and planeswalked away from Theros in the hopes of finding and learning more about these creatures.Finding their way to the metal plane of New Phyrexia, Ashiok tested their power on the Mirrans before seeking out a Phyrexian to experiment with. They chose Elesh Norn, the Grand Praetor of New Phyrexia : first, to make it appear as if she had failed to compleat a Mirran woman, and then to twist her doubt and fear as it spread throughout her basilica. They were found out soon enough, Ashiok openly expressing their surprise : they didn't expect that the Phyrexians would dream.Their final gift to Elesh Norn was her true nightmare : the image of their pet project, of Elspeth Tirel, come to claim her vengeance against the Phyrexians for the traumas of her youth – wearing Elesh Norn's most sacred armor for her own. They slipped away in Norn's moment of hesitation, amused at another beautiful creation.Ashiok managed to evade Norn through the entirety of the Phyrexian invasion, and kept their spark following the Great Pruning. Travelling to the plane of Eldraine, which had fallen under a magical sleep, the Nightmare Weaver may have found a new place to work on their creations.Driven by the belief of fear's ability to be the great unifier of all things, Ashiok’s ultimate motive remains shrouded in mystery.

All of the best stories begin at the very beginning, and Belle's beginning took place in the small kingdom of Avonlea. Born to Sir Maurice and Lady Colette, the child was gifted with a great curiosity and a longing to understand the world around her. Over time, Belle grew from an awkward and shy child into a well-spoken ( if not outspoken ) young woman. It was not far into her young adult life that she was engaged to be married to Gaston LeGume – the son of a Lord from another kingdom – in the hopes of Avonlea forming an alliance with the LeGume family. Despite being vocal about her wishes to fall in love in her own time, Belle did not call off the engagement, believing it was better to follow what she viewed as her duty to her home.However, not all would stay peaceful : the return of the ogres launched Avonlea into a war, one that the small kingdom was not suited to fight. Despite his hesitation, Belle convinced her father to call upon the Dark One — the powerful sorcerer who ended the previous war — to help their kingdom.The Dark One arrived at the devastated castle, and while the young woman was not entirely certain what she had expected this sorcerer to be like, she found that the golden-skinned imp that arrived to mock her kingdom's failings was not entirely what she had thought he would be. He had, evidently, recognized Avonlea's desperate plea for what it was, and offered them his assistance in the Ogre Wars in exchange for one, simple thing — not the gold that he had been offered or anything of the Kingdom, but Belle herself.Despite standing face to face with one of the most powerful known beings, Belle found that she was determined in that moment — seeing an opportunity to be brave, despite her fear of the beast before her. When Rumpelstiltskin was willing to give his word that her family, her people, and her kingdom would be kept safe, she gave her word that she would go with him forever... knowing she would likely never see her home again.Upon her arrival to the Dark Castle, Rumpelstiltskin seemed intent on proving his dark reputation to the girl. She was to be kept in the dungeons, and let out only to go about her duties, which involved fetching him straw, cleaning the castle, making him dinner and tea, and whatever other whims he felt like putting on her on any given day. However, despite his fearsome acts and often melodramatic speech, Belle found that he really wasn't so terrifying, and after only a few short weeks in his company, found that the two began to fall into a calm rhythm. Despite breaking his tea cups and pulling down his curtains, it seemed that the Dark One was slowly warming up to her. She began to be able to separate the Dark One from the man who she lived with, could recognize when he was teasing her, and noticed the small things he did just to make her smile.She hadn't meant to fall in love with him.During one morning, when Belle had been pestering Rumpelstiltskin to tell her a story about himself and the son he had lost, he instead sent her down to the village at the base of the mountain to fetch him more straw. He remarked that he expected her to never return, and as she made the trek down to the village, she contemplated running away, back to Avonlea and far away from the Dark Castle. The thought was fleeting, however, and she soon found herself on the way back home.During her return, a carriage pulled alongside her on the road, carrying a regal looking woman whom Belle did not know. The woman walked with her, asking if she was running away from someone. The woman, who she would later find to be known as the Evil Queen, revealed to Belle that any curse could be broken through true love's kiss. With a new hope in her heart, Belle hastened her return to the Castle, wondering if she truly could break whatever dark curse had taken over the man Rumpelstiltskin had once been.Despite trying to feign as though he was hardly interested in her return, Belle was certain that the man had been happy upon her return, and she insisted that he tell her the story she had been promised. When asked instead why she returned, Belle confessed that she wasn't entirely certain she had been going to, and in a moment of stunning bravery, allowed herself to kiss him. She was overjoyed to find that, sure enough, the golden hue of his skin was melting away to reveal the man beneath. Rumpelstiltskin, on the other hand, seemed horrified – and angry. Belle confessed that someone had told her about true love's kiss, and his anger seemed to double. He insisted she was working for the Queen, and that there was no way she or anyone could ever love him. Without allowing her any rebuttal, he threw her back into the dungeon.She wasn't entirely certain how long he left her down there, before he at last entered to tell her that she was free from him – that he no longer wanted her. Heartbroken and angry, Belle told him that no matter how much he thought his power meant more to him than she did, he would grow to regret his decision.She put the Dark Castle behind her, starting off to new and better adventures instead of returning home to Avonlea. On her travels, she met a lovelorn dwarf and encouraged him to follow his heart, and when he returned to her and told her that he was going to be with the one he loved, she was motivated to do the same. While attempting to return to the Castle, however, Belle was swept up by Regina.Captured by the Evil Queen to keep her away from Rumpelstiltskin, she was locked away in a tower cell. Part of her heart believed that, perhaps, he would come looking for her... but as days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Belle realized she would be there until Regina released her. And it was there she stayed until the storm clouds carrying magic passed through the land......and carried them all to Storybrooke.

Whenever the young girl would question her godfather for details of her mother, Catiana was always told the same story : many years ago, her father — the pirate captain Rafael Freespark — had fallen in love with a young tavern maid called Gwenna Wyarde, a woman with the voice of a siren. Rafael would tell his lover tales of life on the open sea, which Gwenna would turn into songs.But life when Rafael was away on the sea proved difficult for Gwenna. When she fell pregnant, Gwenna made a choice that would forever ruin her relationship – giving the child away in exchange for protection.It was a half-truth, hiding something far darker : the truth being that Gwenna had given birth to the child in the Queenspire, a temple dedicated to the goddess Umberlee. Her daughter, given as an offering to the Wave Mother, was ritually drowned and resuscitated. Revealed as Umberlee's chosen, the ritual was interrupted by Rafael and Symund arriving at the Queenspire, stealing away the baby girl. With his final words to Gwenna being a curse against her, Rafael took his child with him to the sea.The girl was then renamed Catiana.Many years have passed since then, and Catiana grew into a strong young woman. Contented in her life of piracy, the woman enjoyed a good many years learning thievery, swordsmanship, and fighting alongside her family and crew.She would have continued that way forever, had it not been for an attack one night that would change her life. Awoken in the dead of night to the sounds of fighting, Cat raced from her bed to find the Loreley erupting in battle. Attempting to defend her father, Catiana was blindsided and knocked unconscious – all without ever seeing who her attackers were.Waking in one of the Loreley's life boats with only the things she had on her person, Catiana was soon rescued by a boat that delivered her to the portside down of Saltmarsh. It was here that she bided her time, attempting to earn enough money to get a ship together and find her father and the Loreley.A job fell into her lap, along with the unexpected companionship of a Triton, a Tabaxi, a Warforged and a Tiefling. The newfound friends worked together to help out the small town, from recovering missing documents to clearing out suspected hauntings and fighting demented cultists.All the while, mysterious events begin to happen around Catiana : a voice heard in her dreams, promising that her father is alive. The appearance of her father's locket around her neck one night, with a note tucked away inside. In the years spent attending her well-to-do private school, Nagi never made any friends, and seemed to be happy to keep her company with animals and her own thoughts.No one seemed to think that she heard the comments they made about her, but she remembered each and every one. Every snide remark about her looks, her strange behaviours, the way she kept to herself. She heard them all, and remembered them all, but simply did all that she could to pretend as if they meant nothing to her.And then came the accident.On that warm afternoon, Nagi had been walking home from school when she’d caught sight of a peculiar cat in the street. The last thing she could remember was seeing the truck coming and the cat looking at her with its mismatched eyes.She didn’t recall dropping her school bag, or running out into traffic. She couldn’t remember the impact of the truck. What she could remember, when she woke with a tube in her throat and the slow beeping of machinery around her, was the voices of her parents in the hall.Her parents, who said it would have been better if she had simply died.She couldn’t find it in herself to argue. A faerie born not from laughter but from a fallen star, Clarion always had a heavy expectation weighing upon her shoulders. One of the rare Governing Talents, it was always known that she would succeed Queen Elvina when she deemed the Princess was ready. Her early years in Pixie Hollow were spent learning how to ensure that the world of the faeries continued to flourish, how best to support the other talents, and how to keep the seasons in perfect balance.Under the watchful eyes of the Queen and the seasonal ministers, her training all led to an inevitable conclusion : her coronation, which would officially crown her as Queen. All the while, Clarion struggled both to find her own power, and how to best emulate Elvina's ruling style. It was a lonely world, one where she was expected not to make friends with her subjects, as she could not possibly rule over them if they did not see her as their steadfast leader.And then, a chance meeting, one that risked changing everything – there, where Spring met Winter, and she met him. Milori. The Warden of the Winter Woods.What began as a tentative alliance, a mutual goal of saving both their lands from the escaped Nightmares – vile monsters once trapped within the Winter Woods – and Queen Elvina's dangerous plan to sever the tie between the warm and cold seasons, slowly blossomed into something more. Even knowing the dangers, they were drawn to one another in a way she had never experienced before.There were expectations about this sort of thing, after all : winter faeries must stay in Winter. The warm season faeries must remain in the warm seasons. The borders were in place to keep them safe, and yet – to protect all of Pixie Hollow, and to learn the truth behind the secrets of why their worlds were so divided, Clarion crossed the border.Winter’s beauty was only matched by its danger, and yet Clarion could not find it in herself to be afraid when she was with Milori.Everything she learned about the winter faeries and the Winter Woods made it feel like she had found a missing piece of herself, something she had always been longing for.Their forbidden dance had only one outcome, however, as the star-crossed lovers were doomed to discover.On the night of her Coronation Ball, the situations with the Nightmares reached a boiling point : the beasts escaping and attacking the celebration in Winter. Unwilling to turn her back on her people, Clarion joined the fray, and expelled as much of her magic as she had to try and defeat the beasts.Over-exerting herself in the battle, drained of pixie dust and her glow nearly extinguished, Clarion soon found herself on the brink of death. Milori rushed her to the border, but found no warm faeries to take Clarion to the healers, who resided on the border between Autumn and Summer. With no other options, and fully aware of the dangers it posed, Milori took her across the border, refusing to leave her side ─ despite her begging him to do so, despite his wings melting in the summer heat.In the end, the Nightmares were defeated... but at far too great a cost, a cost Clarion would have done anything to undo.The healing talent faeries magic was strong, truly, but there was no cure for a broken wing. As Clarion mourned for Milori and what she had caused in her foolishness, she made her first declarations as Queen : that while she would see the warm and cold seasons united, crossing the border would be forbidden.Seasons passed. Faeries came and went. After a time, the reason behind the border rule was forgotten, and simply accepted. Pixie Hollow continued to flourish under Clarion’s watchful eye.A Queen who would do anything for her people.

Collectors live long, we watch things pass. To preserve, to observe, we must amass. What flies, what swims, be it predator, or prey, seal them up so they may never fade. But should they meddle in our affairs, we'll clean the planet and scorch the air. But playing is more fun, make friends instead, and the others stink! Boo!!A child of the stars, little is known of what the Collector truly is. A race of creatures who watch over the realms, these celestial beings seek to archive and catalog all life. Unlike his brothers, the Collector longed to make friends with the creatures they watched over, instead of simply observing from afar.One night, while lamenting over their siblings not having the time to play with them, the Archivists told the Collector to go down to the world below and see if the Titans – a race of large demon-like beings – would want to play.And play they did : the Collector met and played with all of the Titan children, inventing new games to their heart's content.The Titans were powerful, however. Their magic proved to be even stronger than that of the Collectors, able to counteract their magic with ease. The Archivists, threatened by this power, took away the Titans until only one remained. This Titan, seeking to protect their newborn son, hid their egg away and trapped the Collector in the Realm Between – believing them to be at fault for the loss of the other Titans.Imprisoned behind a glass, the Collector sought out those who would try to free him. These followers of his, however, believed that the Collector was behind the killing of the Titans, and called them The Grand Huntsman. Still, despite this misunderstanding, the Collector tried to use them to find the last remaining Titan – as only a Titan ( or Titan’s blood ) would be able to break their seal.At some point during the human realm’s equivalent of the 1660s, a human living in the demon realm sought out the Collector – believing that he would hold the knowledge on how to create a portal back to the human realm. Philip Wittebane found the tablet the Collector was trapped within, and struck a deal with him : in exchange for Philip freeing them from their prison, the Collector would help Philip with his goal of eradicating the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles. He taught the human everything he knew of magic, and helped the man – who took on a new identity of Belos, and grew to become the Emperor of the Boiling Isles – and helped him create a plot to destroy all magic within the demon realm.On the day of Philip’s plot, however, he betrayed the Collector – saying that the Titan’s Blood he had was only enough to open the portal back home, and that he never had any intention of freeing a being as powerful as them.Betrayed and furious, the Collector was instead found… by King Clawthorne. The last living Titan, the child hidden from them all those years ago. With a pinkie promise that the two of them will play together once they are freed, King released the Collector.Freed, the two play a game King created called Owl House – but the Collector knew he was not truly King’s friend, and only forcing him to play with him, just as so many before.An act of kindness, the loss of a dear friend, and the sudden lesson of what mortality means to humans and demons alike, the Collector learned a valuable lesson from King Clawthorne and Luz the Human.With a great evil defeated, they return to the stars, knowing that they still have much to learn.

A daughter born of the Wyvern Clan in 938, Demona ( who had yet to earn this moniker ) was a loyal warrior dedicated to her people. The mate of Goliath, the second-in-command for their clan, she felt as if there were certain expectations she would have to live up to, a certain strength she needed to show.Developing a strong interest in magic, she secretly became the apprentice of the castle’s Archmage, a man who treated her cruelly but under whom she was able to discover a certain skill for sorcery, as well as teaching her how to read – a skill she later taught to her mate in turn.In 975, the Archmage commanded that his apprentice would steal an artefact, the Phoenix Gate, from the newly arrived Princess Elena. Stealing the princess’ wedding gift, the gargoyle was startled by… herself, or a version of herself, appearing from the future through the use of the Phoenix Gate. Transporting them through time and space, her older self showed her the horrors that were to come – a massacre of the Wyvern clan, and her mate’s petrified form. Her older self urged her to use the Phoenix Gate to change the future, avert disaster, and destroy the humans. Horrified by her own coldness, she instead vowed that she would never become like her future self.Returning herself and the time travellers back to their proper times, the young gargoyle hid the Phoenix Gate from the Archmage, lying and telling him that she had lost it. Furious, the Archmage cast her out as his apprentice.Soon afterward, Demona attended the wedding of Prince Malcolm and Princess Elena. Breaking the Phoenix Gate in half, she gives one half to Goliath to affirm their love, keeping the other half for herself as a physical reminder.As she grew, the visions she had seen of the future continued to trouble her : growing to resent the humans' treatment of her and her kind.By 984, as their Clan’s leader grew older, he put Goliath in the position as new leader of their clan, with him making his mate his second-in-command. In 987, she and Goliath conceived a child, with Demona laying her egg in the Rookery with the others the following year.It would be more than a thousand years before she ever saw her child.Conspiring with the Captain of the Guard of Castle Wyvern in 994, the pair plotted to betray the inhabitants of the castle to the invading vikings. They urged Goliath to take the entire clan and drive the vikings away from the castle that night, intending for the castle to be captured without the gargoyles present to defend it. Goliath, however, took only the old leader with him. The Captain, desperate to have the plan succeed, decided to have the vikings attack during the day instead – when the gargoyles would not be awake to defend the castle. Not daring to warn the rest of her clan, for fear her treachery would be revealed, Demona fled alone to hide on the beach below the cliffside.Awakening that night, Demona returned to the Castle to find her clan massacred by the vikings. Grief-stricken, she hid herself away when she heard Goliath returning to the Castle, too ashamed and afraid to face him. By the time she returned, he and the other survivors were turned to stone – impossibly, during the night.Heartbroken, Demona turned her grief into rage, blaming the humans for their part in her agony, fleeing the Castle and sending herself into a self-imposed exile.Going on to lead a scattered clan of gargoyles, Demona did all that she could to keep their few remaining numbers alive, all the while being pursued by the Hunter, a human who sought to kill her for a crime she did not recall.In 1020, a trio of sisters ( the Weird Sisters, unbeknownst to Demona ) persuaded the gargoyle to attack the Hunter at Castle Moray, where he was on an assassination mission to kill Findláech, the High Steward of Moray, and his son Macbeth. In the ensuing fight, the young man who the Hunter was there to kill was knocked over the wall. Despite her hatred for humans, Demona sacrificed her revenge in order to save the boy, fleeing when she realised her vengeance had been once more postponed. In 1032, this debt was repaid, when Macbeth saved Demona during another of the Hunter’s attacks, this one ending in the Hunter’s ( a man called Gillecomgain ) death.Fate ( or the Weird Sisters ) once more pulled Macbeth and Demona together, as Macbeth requested her assistance in defeating their common enemy. Asking what the pair needed from one another, the Weird Sisters formed a pact between the two : trading Demona’s strength for Macbeth’s youth. Unbeknownst to the pair, their fates were now irreparably tied.Demona and Macbeth fought alongside one another against the invading forces, with the latter so impressed by her fighting skills that he remarked she fought “like a demon!” After becoming King, Macbeth gave her the name Demona, and declared her his primary adviser.Their alliance was a strong one, wavering only when Demona overheard a conversation between Macbeth and his father-in-law, considering betraying the gargoyles in order to earn the support of the English. Fearing that this would come to pass and refusing to lead her clan into a slaughter, she abandoned his forces to the English armies.That night, the pair learned the truth of their pact : when one lives, the other lives. And when one dies, both shall die. Unable to die unless killed by the other’s hand.The English slaughtered the last of Demona’s clan, leaving her alone once more. Fleeing Scotland, she once more became a wanderer, her hatred left festering and growing.She would not ally herself with another human until the 1990s, seeking to at long last break the spell placed upon the last members of the Wyvern Clan.

Younger daughter of Gwendolyn and Dell Clawthorne, Eda was a troublemaker from the very start. Always loving to go off on adventures with her sister Lilith, she met every day with an unbridled excitement. There was always something better, bigger, and more exciting waiting around the corner for her.As she grew into her teenage years, Eda enrolled at Hexside School of Magic and Demonics alongside her older sister. The pair continued to be inseparable : joining the same potions track, studying together, and even planning to join the same Coven together.Despite having all the intelligence and drive to be a star student, Eda spent most of her time getting into trouble at the school. It reached the point where Principal Faust hit his breaking point, and threatened her with expulsion unless she made a deal with him : go through the IFWOT program and return to Hexside with a blue ribbon, or face expulsion. Not willing to risk being separated from Lilith, she agreed.IFWOT – or Instructing Future Witches of Tomorrow – was a series of courses meant to prove one’s values as a witch. Eda was sure she’d be able to skate by with ease, even with the Head Witch of the Plant Coven, Terra Snapdragon, as the overseer. However, her usual shenanigans quickly proved detrimental.
Preparing to face her inevitable expulsion, Eda met a student from one of the other schools – Raine Whispers. They, having attended IFWOT previously, assured Eda that they could ensure she would leave the event with a blue ribbon. The two proceeded to attend each course together, passing with flying colors and becoming fast friends through it. The final challenge was a cruel game put on by Terra, a game of "Covens and Wilds."The two were split up on separate teams, and outlasted the rest of their respective teams. However, instead of attacking one another, as the Head Witch wished, the pair teamed up to launch an attack against Terra. Instead of being upset, Terra was amused, but gave out no ribbons to any of the attending students. She did, however, promise to put in a good word with Faust to see that the promising young witch would be able to continue attending Hexside.Raine’s lack of a ribbon did end their scholarship to St. Epiderm, with them transferring to Hexside soon after. Once she apologized for costing them their scholarship, the two became inseparable friends – Eda’s first, outside of her sister – and grew to be more than friends as their time in school played out.The time came for Coven tryouts, and Eda had always had her heart set on joining the Emperor’s Coven along with Lilith. However, it came out that there was only one spot remaining, and the sister’s would have to duel for it. Confiding in Raine that she had no intention of fighting her sister, Eda made the decision that she would forfeit the match, believing that Coven life was more suited for Lilith.This declaration came too late, however : on the day of the duel, as Eda walked away after forfeiting, she was struck by the effects of a powerful curse – unknown to Eda, placed on her by her sister. The curse transformed her into a monstrous owl-like beast, earning her the title of "Owl Lady."Trying to continue through her schooling with this curse proved difficult, and Gwendolyn sought out the Healing Coven for help in curing her daughter. She was given a gem to wear that would track the beast’s energy, but overheard that her curse was incurable.Running out of the house, Eda stumbled upon a portal door that led away from the Demon Realm, which enabled her to run away from home into the Human Realm. Dropping out of school due to her disappearances, Eda slowly learned ways to live with her curse, including the aid of elixirs which would keep the Owlbeast at bay. Still, she was no longer the same girl, distancing herself from her family, friends, and her partner Raine. Their break up was a nail in the coffin for Eda, pushing her that last bit away from the life she had known and spurring her to remain on the run.During her time fleeing from the Emperor’s Coven, who went after wild witches who had never joined a coven, she found her way to an unknown island off the Isles. Here, she found a small creature, mistaking him for some sort of dog, and brought him home with her. The creature proved to not be a dog, and instead was a strange hatchling whom she called King. Spinning tales for her new, strange companion, Eda told him how he was the King of Demons, and kept secret from him the truth of how she had found him that night.For a time, that was how Eda’s life continued : hiding from the Emperor’s Coven and those who would see her arrested for her wild ways, selling human goods that her palisman Owlbert brought back from the human realm, and just scraping by.She may have continued that way forever, had it not been for one very strange human girl slipping through her portal door.

For as long as she can recall, she and the others travelled, a nomadic group that always searched for what could be their home.For a time, it felt as though Paris could be that very home.Despite the reservations of the Parisian people, the Romani were largely left to their own devices. Esmerald had long since toughened her skin enough to handle the unkind words and persecution, but when a young man was nearly tortured due to her own misunderstanding during the Feast of Fools, she could not stand by and allow such cruelty and injustice to take place.Against the orders of the justice minister, Esmeralda freed the hunchbacked man from his constraints, painting a target on her back for so boldly disobeying the law before disappearing with the help of the others working the festival.Escaping, she trailed the poor young man she had helped to free into the Notre Dame cathedral, wanting to assure herself that he was alright. Caught within the cathedral by the new Captain of the Guard, Phoebus kept her from being arrested by saying that she had claimed sanctuary within Notre Dame. This protected her within the church, but the second she stepped outside, Judge Frollo would have her arrested — leaving her as little more than a caged bird.One grace, however, was that within the cathedral walls was the same young man, called Quasimodo. Kindly, he showed her around his home, the bell tower, and the view of the city above. But when Esmeralda expressed her discontent at being trapped, he helped her to escape from the church unseen. She asked the boy to come with her, but he refused — and instead, she gave him a talisman containing a secret map that would lead him to the Court of Miracles.Following her escape, Frollo began a witch hunt, desperate to track down Esmeralda. Using Quasimodo to find her, she is captured and to be burned at the stake — before Quasimodo comes to her rescue, alongside Phoebus. Together, they and Clopin rallied the city against the judge, who succumbs to a fiery demise.Life was not so simply changed, in Paris. It would take many years for her people to truly be seen in a different light... but Esmeralda is happy to see a change to the people, and to see her dear friend being welcomed with open arms into the city at long last.
